I have to brag: I just bought an older YTS-62, (serial # is 13,XXX), and it's an awesome horn! I got it a week ago off of eBay and have used it at 3 gigs already. Wow. This horn has a fat core tone, projects very well, has an even scale and great ergos. I'm impressed.
It's hardly been used--I'm having to break this guy in--and the pads are original. I had the horn adjusted and two pads replaced and it's good to go.
I feel like I really lucked out on this one.
I don't know where I'm going with this thread other than I'd like to hear from other YTS-62 owners and their impressions of the horn. I've owned a 62 alto before, (should've kept it!), but never a tenor............Daryl

congrats .enjoy!! i have the same one and i love it. (i have 2 actually) / been gigging with it while my 89*** mark 6 sits at home. bright ,bold intonation spot on. ergos are fabulous .they are fabulous horns period . they are sleeper horns in my opinion. Ive bought and sold maybe 100 altos and this horn is awesome. I let people say what they want about yamahas and just laugh inside because i know about them!

You should officially join the 62 Club (http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?t=74058) — congrats on scoring a great horn. Great price?

Actually, yeah a great price, Shotgun. It was about $1340.00, with another $100 in shipping and insurance. I got it in 2 days. It arrived at 10:30 AM and by 1:00 PM the horn was adjusted and 2 pads replaced. I played gigs all weekend with it.

Aw that's great! I am still very happy with mine. When I moved to Maine in years ago all I had was my soprano. I started to get interested in playing again after seeing a local big band gig and took the effort to track down the lead tenorman (who taught at a local school) to see if he might be willing to give me lessons. First piece of advice was, "Get a tenor, a Yamaha 62."

Glad to hear you enjoy your horn! I also have a YTS-62 tenor, serial number 47XXX. I think it's a great player, and it's also pretty unique. It's outfitted with white RooPads and it's unlacquered. Over the time i've had it it's starting to develop a very nice patina and dark honey colored finish. I love it and I would never trade it for anything else!

I play 62's, my tenor isn't the silk screened model but my alto is. I like them because they are cheap and they play well. I got my tenor for 1200 bucks!!!!!!!! cmon you can't go wrong for 1200 bucks!!

I have a YTS-62 that is slightly newer than the purple logo model but before the 62II. I've been through two 82Zs and never really locked into the horn but this one is amazing. Much more flexible than I would have thought also...... all that for a little over $1200 and in near mint condition.

More proof that one doesn't need to spend a lot for a horn. A good horn is a good horn is a good horn . . .

I've done a few searches on this and my eyes are crossing, SO, does anybody know when Yamaha stop putting the silk-screened Yamaha logo on the bell? Thanks.........daryl

I can't pin it down exactly but my horn was 1986 and within 8 years of that I'd definately seen the engraved logo.
On memory alone I would say it was with in 4 years so guessing circa 90/91???

I scribbled down a few trivia notes over the years. But we should be able to narrow these down better.

Purple logos went through 1979-80. Stamped logos were in use in 1992.

The low Bb rocker appeared ~1997. High F# key was added to the 52 (bari?) in 1998.
