Selmer mark vii serial number?

I wonder if anyone can help me, I've just purchased a mark vii alto as i really enjoy my mark vii tenor, and was wondering what the M stands for before the serial number, as oppossed to the letter N on my tenor and super action 80's serial numbers? Many thanks.....

I did a search 'cause I am intested too but couldn't find an answer.

does it have to do with the brass gauge? the alloy?
