Does anyone here have any experience with the Unison 8001? I know that it's a beginner model, but as I am not principally a soprano player, and wouldn't mind having a cheap model on standby.

What would a second-hand Unison 8001 cost, ball-park?

Thanks :P

anthony: Apparently it IS that obscure. At the NAMM Show last January, I stopped by the Unison booth and played a bunch of their saxophones (sopranos and altos). I've always liked Unisons and was impressed with the horns I tried. I picked up a sheet on the sopranos (Model U18) and the altos (Model 2000 as I recall). Those were supposedly the latest models in the Unison line.

I have no idea what a Model 8001 is, though. If it is a straight soprano, I'm sure it isn't far off the usual Taiwanese-Chinese-Vietnamese designs of almost all sopranos these days.

Would I buy a new Unison? - probably not, given my collection of vintage and modern sopranos. But if I was in the market and stumbled across several new sopranos of various brands and models, I'd consider a Unison.

I probably wouldn't seek one out, though, given the other brands that I know are around and readily available (like Antigua and CB; or Yanagisawa if willing to pay the freight). DAVE
