Bootman, which model did you try? Ed's webpage says he has three bari models available but not much else.I was thinking if he offers a real high-baffle bari model in bronzite.I have a Lamberson DD coming for bari but I was thinking it would be nice to have something similar in metal.

SS,
I had Ed make up some copies of my own Bari mpcs with some modifications. A Berg type beak on an opened up Quauntum in Bronzite. I also had a modified copy of a RPC here made as well, shallow rollover Baffle.

Has anybody used a Pillinger R model for baritone?

I play a Pillinger VBQ275 in bronzite on my bari.
When I asked Ed Pillinger what that all means he told me "V means a curve based on vectors originally and therefore not a simple curve, B is for baritone and Q was an indication for me, of the mouthpiece the lay came from in the first place. 275 means a tip opening of 2.75mm. This facing is extremely long finishing at 32mm from the tip".
It's a really warm and complex sounding mouthpiece that I love for big band work. It hasn't got as much projection as some pieces, and I prefer my Lawton for horn section work.
I really like this lay on his mouthpiece and Ed has refaced a Selemr Soloist and a Lawton metal to the same curve. It's very easy blowing all the way down.
I have also played his R model baritone piece (not in bronzite) and it had a bit more edge, but not so much warmth or complexity.
Hope that helps.

I am also interested. Luv his mpcs but his web site needs work. Should have pixs of all mpcs orgainzed AND show baffle etc-- like you see for good vintage mpcs on Ebay.
iI posted this elsewhere
I use Pillinger Soloist style mouthpieces on my soprano (Mark VI) and love em. Have one in Bronzite and one hard rubber—same 55- 60 facing. I rarely play soprano but when I do always get compliments on my tone (Thanks ED). Also play Bari HR 58 (great for the price and if need volume a Runyon Custom 7 (great intonation). If classical will use my old Selmer soloist F. PS the Pillinger 6M alto mouthpiece is finest alto MPC I have played in the last 42 years. So great that I sold my NY Meyer 7M I bought at Penders Music in Denton Texas in 1969 to the great NY based multi-woodwind artist Marty Erlich who used it recently in Paris performing the Theme from the movie Taxi Driver with the Symphony.

I found his website, but there are a few different models of Alto mpc - which model is your 6M?

Has anybody used a Pillinger R model for baritone?
Yes! :-) I play an R with the 7*L facing. I like it a lot, but I find the facing a little too long for me. I like the sound, though. I switched to a little harder reeds the other day, and that made a difference to the better.
You can hear it on my homepage (the Gullin clip on www.barytonsaxen.se/sounds.html). Here it sits on a low Bb Mark VI, RJS reeds.
