After buying a The Martin Bari I realized that none of my neckstraps were long enough, and tying 2 straps together wasn't the best solution. Anyway, I went shopping at my local music store, Bertrands Music, and ended up with a Neotech "Soft Harness" that is sweet and cost only $25.95. This strap is very comfortable and after playing the bari for an hour I had no neck or back pains. I highly recommend these straps.

I have also used the Neotech harness for some time...it looks dorky, but very adjustable and keeps the weigh off ones neck...

This harness may look dorky but if it gets me to log more practice time on bari bring on the pocket protector! On the practical side, just wear a dark shirt and the strap will blend in.

I used the Neotech harness for bari for some time, but I recently switched to the Gemini from Enrie Kalwa. See http://www.studiospace.com/rcsq/index.htm and click on Sax Harness.
The Gemini is more flexible in adjustment, and it doesn't feel as springy to me as the Neotech. I also found I couldn't cinch the Neotech up enough for a bass sax, but the Gemini can be adjusted to handle one.

I sometimes use Blue Note harness on bari. What I like about this harness is that the snaphook is metal,I don't trust plastic hooks on bari.

Hi guys,
4 hour gigs had taken it out of my neck playing bari all of these years until I found the BG bari sax harness.. they are great, comfortable, easy to adjust and do not look at all "dorky". they are not very expensive and last for years..

Went to an equestrian shop and am having an over the shoulder style strap custom made. Real leather of good quality, metal hook and adjusters...should look outstanding and last well past my lifetime. If this leather and fittings are originally meant for saddles and bridles and all the wear and tear that would dish out, my bari is nothing compared to that.
The guy quoted me a price of 25 GBP- the same as a BG harness!
+ I have supported a small local business and not global capitalism :D

Hi,
Do you, Sam, or anyone else know where to get more info on the blue note hareness? I looked aound the internet, but not a lot of info out there. What kind of movement does it allow compored to the neotech. There's a new neotech model out http://www.optechusa.com/nharness.html
has anyone tried it? I'd like to get something to keep the weight totally off the neck, and going over the shoulders further out from the head than any harness I've seen. Thanks for any tips,

Interesting...the one complaint that I have about the Neotech harness (old one) is that it is a little difficult to adjust and it holds the sax pretty close to the body...doesn't give it much 'swing'. This makes it a little compromising when you're playing seated and you have to stand to take a chorus or a section soli...like in big band gigs...the new one looks like that problem will be worse. Echoing Brian a little, the BG looks more adjustable and has a longer 'tail' where the horn clips on, so might be better.

I have tried the neotech which was OK but tended to move around a bit and was mechanically a bit of a bother. I also have tried the BG harness which was my first choice until I saw the GEMINI harness. The BG has a plastic cross piece and allows the straps to move about a good bit. I also ended up putting it on over my arms and head like a t shirt. The Gemini harness is VERY WELL MADE and is the most comfortable one that I have tried. It is now my exclusive harness when I play tenor. IT is easy to put on with the clasp in the front, has excellent adjustment clasps which lock into place and the leather piece in the back is broad and quite comfortable. I could not imagine even a custom piece being so comfortable. Ernie has them and is quite prompt about delivery etc. If you have ANY consideration for wearing a harness for your neck or other reasonss, Please try this one. And NO, Ernie is not giving me a price break or refund from this. Its just a great product. :D

I strongly suggest that you look at the url below. I use the spinstrap for hours with No fatigue with my bari.

I hope that this helps you

I know that it is not the usual shape, but it is very comfortable and reduces fatigue. It can be used over right or left shoulder with great comfort.

You guys think that's bad, i had to march in a marching band parade and i didn't have a harness. My neck hurt for the next few days. Needless to say, i've used one every time since then.
I've got both the BG and Blue Note harnesses. The Blue Note is more rugged, but the BG has smoother adjusting sliders in case you double and don't want to have to swap harnesses.

krock293- u said ur neck hurt from marching bari, try doing it on a neck strap with no padding thats about half an inch wide. lol hows that for ya, didnt have a problem doing that. however, there is a solution. if you guys have the high quality uniforms, they should have a VERY thick collar, if you put the strap ont he collar it shouldnt have any problem. another thing with the neotech harness, it may look wierd, but i got a solution to that to. play in a suit. you put the harness under ur jacket, and put the clip between the buttons, i do that all the time. it works, u just have to play in a band with a dress code thats all.

i use a neotech harness. works for me even if it does accentuate my anatomy more than I like. dahubby takes to talking about "kinky sax" when I wear it.
i marched in HS with a bari, and no harness.
I'm way past caring if I look dorky.

I don't trust the plastic hook on the Neotech. The hook on mine was starting to bend from the weight of the horn, so that the slider no longer fully closed, so I replaced it with a metal hook.

mine bent to the point where i didnt need to open the clip to put the sax on it. i sent it back to neotech when the whole mechanism fell off (the WHOLE clip) and they replaced it and paid for shipping. great customer service out there.
