Hi all --

I just finished a major update of the Mouthpiece Museum (http://www.mouthpiecemuseum.com) and added a lot of new pictures and information. If you haven't visited the site lately, check it out. If you see mistakes, or have mouthpieces that you don't see on the Mouthpiece Museum, please send me an email. I need pictures of your mouthpieces!

Cheers,
Gig

Love the MUSEUM - I think the Soloist D Selmer tenor piece you have pictured was one of mine at one point. Should have held on to that one. Oh well.

Thanks, Al. I think I forgot to give you credit for the Soloist D pictures -- I will add your name to the Credit page during my next revision.

Hi, I like the looks of your website and appreciate what you're trying to do. However, I must say it is a bandwidth hog! And whenever I try to view a page with a lot of graphics--like the Brilhart page--Explorer gets hung up or crashes. Now I have a 2005 Dell Optiplex with a Pentium 4 chip, which should be able to handle it. Plus I have a fast wireless connection and never have problems with most commercial websites. So I have to ask, what kind of compression are you using on your graphics and image files? Just curious....

I have the same problem. The page won't update as I scroll down and quickly crashes my browser. Is it because the photos are in high resolution?

Aww Gig you still didn't put my pictures up?

I am using iWeb 2.03 (current version) on a Mac to create the site. It optimizes all images and pages for speed.

I admit that some of the pages have l lot of pictures, so just give it some time to load. It's not the speed of your processor that might be the bottle neck, it's the amount of memory of your graphics card.

I regularly test the site from away from home (like Internet cafes across the globe when I am on travel) and never noticed any major problems. The site is fully compatible with all current generations of browsers (I extensively tested that), and a test from an independent vendor showed that even the pages with a lot of pictures (like the Barone or Link pages) load as fast at the CNN web site, which I find acceptable.

There's really nothing I can about it except switch to an entirely new software to create the web site or re-structure the entire site and have a maximum number of pictures per page, but this would make navigation a nightmare with hundreds of mpc images.

If you have suggestions what you would like to change, I am open to new ideas.

FYI--my browser never crashes when I view Theo Wanne's mouthpiece museum. So there must be a way to build these sites to accommodate even those lacking state of the art machines. Also, I think my computer came with a pretty state of the art (for 2005) video card, though I don't recall the brand or the specs at the moment.

If you don't mind, it would be really useful to a lot of classical players (including me) if you showed and classified different vintage Buescher mouthpieces.

I just sent several pictures of my RPC soprano mpc. I think I sent them before but they may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Are you using Internet Explorer?

I think there is a problem using MS Internet Explorer to view web sites that were made with iWeb on a Mac. Unfortunately I am stuck with iWeb as re-creating the web site with other software would require a looot of work. I will see what I can do.

Are you having the same problems with a different browser (Firefox, Netscape, Safari, etc)?

Great idea -- I will work on that.

Yes, I am using Explorer. I will try downloading Mozilla and viewing it on that.

Bill -- I still have a couple of folders with images that I didn't put online yet because the quality wasn't up to my (random) standards. Maybe yours are in these folders. ;)

Ditto. Just briefly checked. BTW, the legend for the Yani hard rubber piece says metal. You are making an excellent site and resource. Thanks also for including Peter's pieces on the main menu.

Don't forget to place a pin on the Guestmap and leave a comment!

Seems like a really good site. But this site always crashes my IE and the computer gets stuck and needs to be re-started. This is the only site that does this to my computer. If you can make it more compatible with all browsers, it would be great. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.

It it is becoming clear that there are problems with Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), but with none of the other web browsers. I would be able to fix this if I would re-create the entire site from scratch, using a different software and more efficient web optimizers for the images. This would be a LOT of work (weeks) and I can't promise if I will ever have the time to do that.

In the meantime, I encourage all IE explorer users to use a different (=better) browser (Firefox, Mozilla, Safari, etc).

P.S.: Please sign the guestbook!

tried to put a pin in the map, but there didn't seem to be a tool to do so. could be the firewall here at work.

BTW I am using IE7 here and things are fine. although the scrolling thru the pages is jumpy.
