The store where I work (Sam Ash Manhattan) has a couple of basically new Rampone R1 Jazz horns (alto and tenor) for sale for what I think is a pretty decent deal and I thought I'd pass it along.
Both are gold plated, formerly owned by James Carter, non-original cases, pretty much new condition. The alto is $2800 and the tenor is $3200, which I think is about a $1100 under new price on each.
I am a repair guy and not a salesman, but you can call the store at 212-398-6070. Like I said I'm not a salesman so I'm not trying to make a buck or advertise blaggity blah blah blah, just passing along a good deal.

I heard a guy here in Phoenix playing an R&C tenor the other day: excellent player, Ted Brown, playing with organist Papa John Defrancesco. It was interesting to hear; I liked the sound he was getting (which of course has about 99% to do with the player, but the horn is in the mix): kind of a cross between Joe Henderson and Hank Mobley. He had a gold lacquered R&C with an aftermarket silver neck, with a HR Berg setup. Beautiful axe, interesting timbre. Out of the ordinary. I would advise anyone in the market for an axe to think seriously about these.

Hi there. Ted Belledin here (not "Brown"). I still have the Rampone and Cazzani horn. I like a lot of things about it, but in the end, I went back to my Mark VI. I have too much history with the Selmer I think. The R and C has a much smoother low end, especially for subtones and soft playing. But I couldn't quite get the hang of the altissimo.
BTW I will be selling the R and C horn if anyone in Phoenix is interested. I paid $3000 for it and I am looking to break even.

Ted,
I realize opinions on SOTW are like....well, everyone has one...but, I'd keep the R&C...it has a nice fat sound, distinct from the Mrk VI...early Dexter Gordonish (King)..vs. John Coltrane (Selmer) sound...I much prefer Dexters early sound...as far as the altissimo, you might want to try a custom modified mpc..instead of giving up a great sounding horn. A friend of mine plays a great Mrk VI tenor...and he also had problems with the R&C voice in the altissimo, on a try...however, John Reilly of mpc fame had no problems with it, it's a big band sound style horn...not so useful for funk/rock...the only thing I can say about R&C..they should work on their forked F3 key ergo's by tapering it so one can smoothly move the side of the finger over the key..instead of hopping...and they should improve the intonation on the same note..which on my horn is quite flat...otherwise...it is a great horn.
Best of luck...guess I'll have to visit my daughters in Phoenix and see if I can catch your act...
