Hey there--A friend of mine found a Pierret "Super Artiste" alto sax (serial number 1229) in his attic and asked me if I could help him determine the value. I have no idea about what kind of horn this is--it's in pretty rough condition and in need of repair. Is this kind of horn something that would be worth the re-haul? It needs new pads, springs, and lacquer at least and probably more, but if it's a great horn, I don't mind putting the money into it. Any advice would be super! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum ellapples. In short, yes they are good horns, and it probably would be worth putting a few dollars/pounds/euro/whatever into it. There doesn't seem to be as much known about them as the more famous French manufacturers - use the 'search' button near the top of this page to find past threads, and have a peek at http://www.saxpics.com/the_gallery/Pierret/ to compare your model with others.

Hi there,
I just bought a Pierret Alto Super Artiste from Ebay in Germany and paid about $1000. It had new pads and is in perfect playing condition.
I played it today for the very first time and was surprised by the good and rich sound. It has very good keywork. It is a solid saxophone that I rate a pro horn. The weight is about the same as my Selmer Mark VI.
I think it is worth taking it to a pro saxworkshop to get a quote on the repad and adjustment of the keywork.
Pierret was a french saxophone company that made saxophones mostly for the big french orchestras. They closed down in the year 1972.
The one on http://www.saxpics.com/the_gallery/Pierret/super_artiste/alto/lacquer/1885/ is the same as I have.
Regards
Werner

I just bought a Pierret "Super artiste" alto off a fellow band member. It sounds great and is in good condition.
I would like to know the date. The address is 207 bvd Voltaire and the only number I can see, probably the serial number, is 48. Anybody got any idea ?
Thanks. :?:
