Hi...just met a guy who imported some Chinese brass and saxophones. Want to know if they are good stuff, looks and feel pretty good. Some are engraved with the name of "Davi" and "Sonatö. Would love to know iwhat you guys know of these makes and models and any recomendation on buying for beginners and semi professional players. Also any of you know where i can import good saxophones for brass bands etc at resonable prices. Thanks

Hi Chris

This is an area to tread carefully in. Some Chines saxes are excellent, some awful. The best rival anything out of Taiwan, and possibly even Japan and Europe, but the worst are unplayable and fall apart in no time. What you really need to do is make sure you have someone with you who if very familiar with a wide range of saxes before you commit to doing a deal. If I were in your position I'd want to visit the factory and pick a few instruments off the production line, as samples are likely to have been given special attention to ensure they are as good as possible.

I've never come across these two brand names, although that doesn't mean they're no good, just that they are probably not marketed in the UK or Europe.

Good luck, and take care!
