Man I'd love to have this SML. Like mine was many years ago...stock. A bit earlier and mine is a stencil, Pichard Artist Model with no adjustments on the key guards.
Oh well, you can't go back in time besides my MK I plays better now than way back then. Or so I tell myself.

Be patient, I bought a Rev D two-tone recently for USD 3,000 and it is absolutely mint, like a new horn. The differences between a Rev. D and Gold Medal Mk I mostly favour the Rev D (I also have a mint condition Gold Medal Mk I in silver). The Rev. D has all the features of the Gold Medal, plus it has additional feautures including a swivelling LH thumbrest and adjustable felt bumper pads. The primary difference in my two horns is that the bell of the Rev D is slightly larger (that's right, everyone seems to say the the Gold Medal had the larger bell, but not so with my two horns!).

Cheers

I'd say it was at least $750 too much. But if there's a 'lifetime of joy in it', does that matter?

Elmore, if money was not the issue, you need to check out Matt's Gold Plated Rev D. He's in the process of giving it the royal treatment:

If you consider SML as truly in the same league as the best Selmer Mk VI, then it still is reasonable.

Life's too short.

That original lacquer on this Rev D is incredible. It must have not been handled or played much. Maybe spent a lot of time in a closet and lightly polished infrequently. I'm skeptical.
Looks good...real good!

Money is always an issue! I've got mine and it has a great sound...a good player.
I do need to acquire more though...both money and horns.

I do consider SML in the same league as the best Selmers and many other great vintage saxophones and I think that the sound is so incredible that it could possibly stand alone. Last week I was playing mine with a group of drummers...a drum circle group. Just my tenor and them. Lots of fun and good practice. When we finished, the leader of this group of drummers said "You sound good. Is that a Selmer?" I laughed and told him SML.
