Hello eveyone !
All the folks here are talking about the SML rev. D, gold medal,etc...
But not a lot about the standard modle (both alto and tenor)...
Good and more affordable alternative to the other model ?
Max.

the sml standard is smls "previous model"...-a standard in gold medal serial number will be exactly the same as a rev d but never with rolled toneholes- apart from that...- no difference

Possibly wider tolerances in manufacturing, hence less accurate tuning?

I owned few Gold Medal and Standart tenors, here are the same highers quality horn like a Selmer MKVI, just Standart has no roled tone holes. Here I deeply disagree with Pete Hales, Standart is built the same way like a Gold and for shure is a high pro class horn, not an intermediate as mr. Pete described... It means Selmer Mark VI also intermediate horn because has no rolled tone holes...

A few more differences: No adjustment screws except between lower and upper stack, no rotating ring on the neck. Lack of the other adjustment screws is mainly of concern to the repairer.
I own a Standard from right before Gold Medal was introduced (so corresponding to a Rev. D) and also a King Marigaux. Both are absolutely first class professional horns.
