There's a whole sub-forum (http://forum.saxontheweb.net/forumdisplay.php?f=232) dedicated to the topic of Mauriat saxophones.

The p mauriat horns seem pretty good, ive played on a 66r tenor excellent responce, really played well, there going up in price i understand so the competition will be amongst the likes of yamaha, yanigisawa, etc.
Just got to try them out and see for yourself.

You can find them cheaper with other names stamped on the bell, or you can go here and buy a few and stamp your own name on them. http://www.allproducts.com/musical/cadeson/Product-200452145434.html
That should probably give you the idea that you are buying a quality saxophone.

OUCH! Can I buy any Selmer stencils and put my name on them? Since the answer is no, does that mean they are quality horns just because their factory can't put out as many as they do in Taiwan?
I know this is a sticky wicket, but the PM's/PF Fliers/Cadesons/etc. are really decent horns that have found a niche in the marketplace that wasn't filled by the big 4 manufacturers...IMHO. :)

Bogy: See my posts in the MISCELLANEOUS SAX SECTION . . . look for '08 NAMM. I attended the BIG SHOW this past Saturday.
I thought the P. Mauriat sopranos were average. Much better were the Cannonball sopranos, the new Rheuben Allen Kenny G straight sopranos, the Hollywood Winds soprano, the Stephanhouser soprano, the Antigua sopranos, and the Unison sopranos. I don't know about pricing but most of the ones I mentioned were in the same arena as PM's.
The Yanagisawas and Selmers I played were wonderful but probably out of your price range if PM's looked good to you.
Bottom line is that the PMs are Taiwanese-made horns just like most inexpensive sopranos these days. And from what I've seen, most Taiwanese sopranos play about the same. DAVE
