They are made in Taiwan. Some of the older LA Saxes are not as good as the more recent models. The newest models have LA USA on them instead of LA Sax - I have not tried those models yet, but my 750 alto and 850 tenor do a nice job.

Mark is correct. I've had satisfying experiences with all modern versions of the LA Sax including LA-650 soprano (still have one), LA-750 alto, LA-850 tenor and even an LA-900 baritone (the Blue Max) which was an excellent player down to low-A.

As Mark noted, earlier models may not - probably do not - share the same high quality features and performance as these newer versions.

Im pretty sure the early LA Sax's were mainland Chicom trash.

The LA Sax line Altos are great horns. I have one as my spare/backup. It plays better than my Series III selmer. It projects better, and I can hit 3 half steps higher altissimo using the G key to hit higher altissimo notes, that without using the key. The speaker key is great, and the horn projects very well. It is built like a tank too. Great horn people!
