I am planning on buying a sax (or 2) from kessler.
I would like to buy one of kessler's red brass altos as well as a red brass soprano, but I was wondering if it would be better just to buy a yani 901 alto instead, and not buy the soprano.
I don't really need a soprano, I just wanted to start learning it, and play it at school.
So, do you think I should buy the alto and soprano, or just go with the yani alto?

Dave Kessler himself will tell you that Yanagisawas are more horn than his house-brand models (I own both brands by the way). I'd say that if you are a youngster, go for the A901 and leave the soprano for later. The A901 is a horn you can keep your entire life and still enjoy it when you reach my age.
Later, when you can afford a Yanagisawa soprano, then you'll have two class-acts. DAVE

If it was me, I'd buy the Yani A901 (knowing of myself, I would end up trading the Kessler alto for a Yani, or some other "same level" saxes, someday)
If wanting to have a sop just for a "side-kicking" trying/learning, you can find one decent playing sop relatively cheap (here on SOTW or elsewhere...) Mind you that alto and sop are "WAY" differences in playing, controlling and everything else (many other SOTW members would agree with me...)
I happened to have a sop for sale real cheap, yet it is totally beside the point :)

OK, thanks for the comments. I'll have time to think about it for awhile... Probably won't get it for 2 or 3 weeks.

I agree with the other posters. The Yanagisawa A901 is a true pro horn. Our Kessler Custom saxes, while very good horns, are still an intermediate sax in comparison.
Now between the 2, our RedBrass alo will have a warmer sound then the A901 Yani, but still, the Yani is the better all around horn. Plus, you can always darken the Yani sound by putting on an A992 neck later on.

I have a Kessler red brass alto, and it's an excellent instrument. However, if you have the money for an A901, and don't really need the soprano, get the A901.

I'm new to SOTW, and I'm looking for an inexpensive Sop. Mind telling us a bit more about what you have to offer?
