View Full Version : Live session?

I`ve seen other forums/message boards that have a live chat facility (and I think live chat has been suggested here before) but would be it possible and would there be any interest in a live SESSION facility?
The idea would be to play live to an online audience. Regular schedules could be arranged whereby those willing, could book a time/date slot (just like a regular gig) and entertain our fellow SOTWers.
Maybe the session could be recorded and available for download later?
SOTW could provide live entertainment for those unable to get to real life gigs, both the performer and audience would benefit.
Thank you.

Cool idea! Session available for later streaming would be important, IMO.

Harri, is this a possibility?
Who would be up for playing?
Wouldn`t it be cool listening to your fave SOTW players live then have the chance to give feedback as and when. Even learners could benefit - having live feedback from more experienced players as you run through an exercise would be invaluable.

You must have some strange powers, I was thinking along the same lines, but with one twist I was thinking we could setup a sister site call Cyberbusking.com or something simular.
You could then book a slot, perform, people can then loging to hear the stream and donate money via paypal as you would to a normal busker if you liked the music.

Well, yes I must be psychic because I had exactly that idea a while back!
I was thinking of using Soundclick, just as I do now, but adding a panhandle option. Then I thought, nah, let them listen for free ;)

I really like the idea of Cyberbusking.com. Make it more general than just for saxontheweb. You could make different sections (or have people make different sections) for e.g. saxplayers, or complete bands. The site itself would need to provide the streaming capacity to serve the potential thousands of listeners because a normal user will not have this capacity.
So I guess the performer would need to have fairly fast upload capacity to stream everything to the server, which buffers it and provides a link to this buffer to the rest of the world. So it would be almost-live (say, a few seconds delay). To make it completely realtime is fairly impossible in my opinion.
Another addition could be maybe to have a section where people can add their compositions which other people can then take, add something to it and put it back. You could get really great (or horrible :-) ) compositions this way.

hmmm... I'm the bad guy here :D
To be honest, I like the idea, but I don't see it being implemented for following reasons :
- bandwidth. bandwith. bandwidth.
- it defenitely comes very close to the number of other sites, including soundclick, myspace, youtube and the likes, where you can put yourself online and even charge for your music.
There is indeed a difference, but I don't believe it would make a difference.
You are allowed to call me one pessimistic example of utter sadness :D

 You are entitled to your opinion - and I`m glad you voiced it :) Yes, the idea requires mega bandwidth - something that would likely need its cost paid for by subscriptions.

Hell who cares about the bandwidth its all about the music man :D
I can see it now busking to a potenial listener base of millions all of the throwing 50 cents in each - wow I going to be rich :D :D

they do something like that at secondlife.com. even recording the visuals (animated characters) I know there software is out there to take care of latency etc, but I think it's beyond the scope and means of this discussion forum.
