YTS-52 vs. Yani T 901

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a new tenor sax, and I'm torn between a Yani T-901 and a Yamaha YTS-52. The Yamaha is $1300 new, while the Yani is $2300 new. However, I understand the Yani is a pro sax, while the Yamaha is an intermediate, which brings me to my question: what can you guys tell me about the YTS-52 to give me some reason to consider buying it over the Yani, which I'm strongly leaning toward getting. Buy the YTS-62II. It goes for around $1700 new and is a true no-nonsense professional saxophone.

I agree about the Yamaha, but I think your price on the Yani is a bit high.

I agree on the price for the Yani. You should go for a newer 62 model.

I just took delivery of a YTS-62 II myself from prowinds.com (bloomington, IN). I upgraded from a YTS-275 I purchased overseas last year. In my own research into the various levels of Yamaha sax's I really didn't see much difference between the 275 and the 52. You really need to go up one more level to the 62 to make it worthwhile. In other words; if you are going after a 52 save your money and buy a 23 or a 275. If you want a pro horn you should go for the 62 instead. The 52 is really more of a stop-gap horn.

Thanks guys. I was thinking the same thing about the price on the Yani, and after hearing how cheap the 62 II is, I'm leaning more toward the it than the Yani.

If you really like the Yani, it can be had for a lot less mioney if you buy from Europe. Check saxophones.co.uk in England or Roland Ekle's site - musiktreffpunkt (?). I think you'll find prices closer to $1700 USD.

jp3, how much of an issue is shipping? Also, is there anything I need to worry about as far as US customs or anything? Thanks. Also, I found another dealer that wants $2125 for the 901.
