Looks like either a stencil of a Keilwerth model 3 or an Amati Tone King with more elaborate pearls

If so I would say it is worth fixing as a player although it will probably never sell for what you put into it. If you can do all or most of the work yourself I would definitely go for it.

“KEILWERTH” (1956): In 1956, Kohlert stenciled a horn, rather than producing their own. It’s an Amati Toneking stencil with a Keilwerth serial number. Confused yet?
Yea I am....
Well found pics under Keilwerth at saxpics
Keilwerth>Kohlert
Keilwerth>Amati
Any one knows how these sound?

In 1956 Kohlert did stencil that was basically an Amati tone king. This horn is similar to that one. So wether it came through Kohlert or from Keilwerth or Amati I say its essentially a Tone King or Model3 stencil. Either way the horn should be a good player, right up there with a Couf or Tone King. Pro quality I would say.

Hope this is ok, found this in the Keilwerth forum by Sarge
Thanks! spiderjames for pointing me in the right direction.
Is 250.00 a good price? needs to be overhauled. I just need a practice horn
a beater not worried about resale.

Hi,
There are basically three Tone King horns, all are very excellent playing and sounding horns. I own a few Julius Keilwerth Tone King tenors and one alto, all are solidly built, powerful sounding horns, with very good intonation and tone. 8)JK also sold bodies to various german firms, including Amati Kraslice and they finished them with either their keywork or keilwerths. These are also great horns and equal to the JK models. You can tell the amati tonekings because they have amati engraved below the tone king. the body should have JKG engraved on the back in a circle, with best in the world.
the third tone king is all amati. still good horns. no JK on the back. no micro-tuner on the neck. they do have a excellent sound.
I would base my choice on the price, with the "all JK" being worth the most.

My guess would be a Kohlert 57 Stencil with upgraded features. Which in an odd twist (and this would be in agreement with other replies) is a Keilwerth body tube with Kohlert Keywork etc.... great horns! If you like that smoky blues sound you are going to love this horn... added benefit of the pearl touches. What I can't figure is how you would question 250.00... in my estimation 'any' tenor in even the worst of conditions is still worth 250.00. In this case however, you have scored to be sure. Even if this horn is not a Kohlert it is at least an Amati take off of a Keilwerth tone king... again probably a great horn if you love R&B/blues rich with complexity and tonal character. If you decide you don't want it let me know, I could suffer through ownership of that beauty.

$250.00 is a great price for that horn. Setup is purely a personal thing. Any medium to large chamber mouthpiece should work on it.
