Hi,
can you explain me the main difference between a short and long facing, in terms of brightness, emission, and reed strenght to be used with?

thanx

A short facing favors the response of the high notes and a long facing the low notes. The difference is minor on well-faced pieces. Wider tip openings and/or harder reeds can be used on long facings to get the same resistance feel as on the short facings. Short sounds slightly brighter. Very long facings on tenor and bari can cause some buzz to be felt on the lower lip. Those that like the sound put up with it. Most pieces are medium to medium-long these days.

Also, most jazz mpc's have shorter facings except in the case of a very open tip, in which case a longer facing is used so the player doesn't have to go play Vandoren 1's or something along that line. Most classical mpc's have medium to long facings and take harder reeds (except for my crystal one which plays Vandoren... 2's  )
