I was looking at the Jupiter 869SG Eb Artist Alto sax. Has anyone tried any of the Jupiter Artist Series saxes? What are they like? What's your opinion. Thanks!

Thats the horn I own. Its a pretty good horn for the money in my opinion. A guy who plays Alto in the same band as me liked mine so he went and traded in his student model Yamaha for one too. I tried several different makes and models when I bought mine and the Jupiter just stood out as the nicest sounding one.

I play all of the Jupiter Artist Series saxes (I'm a Jupiter Canada artist/clinician)
I've used the alto extensively for concert and recording work. It's a superbly responsive instrument with excellent intonation. I've found it to be very m/p friendly too. I can get whatever sounds out of it I need to.

Hmmm... i know a famous classical artist who is doing so refining with Jupiter on some silver saxes. He seems pretty excited about where they are headed.

Currently I'm using a Jupiter Artist Bari, and its probobly one of the best baris I've ever played. (I've used a Yamaha 62 and a Selmer Series 2 in the past). Its very lyrical in the upper and lower octives with really good intonation throughout. The keywork (on the bari at least) isnt quite as ergonomical, as the Yamaha and Selmer, but it works perfectly fine for me.

I am wondering if anyone has tried out the Tenors - I'm thinking about either a Bari or a Tenor and wondering how well designed the keying system is - I'm looking at how easy the adjustments are six months down the track when the honeymoon period of a new instrument is over and there is starting to be some leaks - Yamaha wins this battle to the best of my knowledge hands down ... great instrument to service my repairman tells me - So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the Jupiter Artiste Series compares.
Thanks

Merlin, I tested one for about 20 minutes. What a surprise! The horn felt great; no complaints about intonation. I play a Martin tenor, so for me the sound wasn't quite there. My tech has mentioned that the rods are a little soft on these horns, though. All in all, I was very impressed with the one I tried.

Ive played a Tenor artist series, and have owned a jupiter intermediate tenor(i play a keilwerth sx90r alto now).
The sax has great intonation everywhere, and the keywork is suprisingly well done. A friend of mine, who owns a Selmer ref. 54 as well as a Keilwerth sx90 complimented the jupiter and said the keywork was as good as his reference's.
As for longevity...i played it for 3 1/2 years, through everything(marching band, concerts, general abuse) and never being worked on, it remained in excellent condition...one screw fell out, but it was on a key guard and was no big deal.
Overall I'd say it's a great investment.
I tried one of Jupiter's Artist Silver Tenors today against a Yanagisawa T991, my thoughts:
The Yani had slightly smoother keywork, the leather case was the nicest I've seen, maybe too nice to be something there to absord punishment. In the upper register, both instruments played effortlessly (I've never blown on a tenor before today, I'm mainly an alto player) yet the Yani played a bit better, but not by much. On the Other hand, the Jupiter held out a bit better on the low register, but the difference maker was the middle register, the Yani seemed restricted with the setup I had (some sort of rouseau mouthpiece and Java reed) weras the Jupiter blew much more freely. Both blew less freely for me than on my Yani 880 alto, maybe that's due to my unfamiliarity with the Tenor. Both instruments looked stunning, but the Jupiter
The tone of the Yani was a more versitile one akin to my alto. The jupiter was much edgier but both had a nice roundness to their tone. Personally, even if the Jupiter wasn't about $1000 cheaper, I'd probably pick it anyway for it's better projection, more striking looks, and bright-edgy tone.
