I am getting some new pieces to try out, is the sound similar to a Selmer, or the Yanagisawa metal? I like the projection of the Yanagisawa metal, but it is difficult to control for me (I have no problem with other metal mouthpieces). I think Eric Marienthal uses one, but his soprano sound seems to be different on different albums, presumably he was using a Beechler Bellite before?

Eric Marienthal was using his Bari Gold for many years. There are too much juice in studio recording process. That's why some of his soprano song sounds can be different.

About the Bari Gold, if possible, you better to test it before buy. Some people may not like the sound. If a MPC is well made, should be easy to play. But many MPC are mass production today. Quality is unstable, better to test as many as possible. May be only one is good if you test 5 or 6. Not only for Bari Gold, but STM, Beechler Bellite Metal are same.

BTW, what size you use on the Bari Gold & what other setup for this MPC? Horn, reed & ligature.

I am about to try a 7, which I think has a tip opening of .70. I'm currently using a Yanagisawa metal #6 with Rico Plasticover. My horn's a Yanagisawa s991.
