I got my curved sop (silver R1) last May. After 20 years of playing a Mark VI soprano, I love my new curvy.
Interestingly, just as I got my horn, the volume of communication in the R&C forum has dropped dramtically. So, I need the interaction.
As I said, I love the horn. I do have some ergonomic issues: see my thread below. I've since done some building of keys with epoxy putty, and am very happy with the results.
High F key (front key) is almost impossible to play, though I've had it checked (yes, I can play hi F with palm keys, also F#). Middle D is a sensitive note: seems to need more attention than others, as it can "buzz" in a way I never experienced in my Mark VI.
I use a Bari HR piece, opened up to .078, with Fibracell reed. Nice, very warm sound.
The horn feels solid, though it is clear it was built in Italy, not Japan: I used to drive an Alfa Romeo, that is a dream to drive. I now own a Subaru, that is a dream to own, and significantly more reliable, but as much as I love my Subaru Outback and its 4-wheel drive, it does not even come close to the pleasure of driving the Italian baby.
What's your experience like?
