My name is Merlin Williams, and I'm taking students on saxophone and clarinet in the Toronto area.

I've been playing for the past 30 years, and teaching for 20 of those years, including 13 years with the Toronto District School Board.

I've taught students ranging in age from 9 to 70.

I stress proper tone production, technical development and reading skills to enable my students to pursue whatever musical styles they're interested in. I teach all levels from beginner to advanced.

My performing experience includes a lot of big band playing (including several recordings), quartet playing, solo recitals, orchestral playing (on sax, clarinet, bass clarinet and bassoon) and session work.

Played with some of the greats (Trane, McLean, etc), good long time friend with Seattle jazz legend, tenor saxophonist, Hadley Caliman. He can really help your tone in just a couple lessons. He really tries to make learning chords/scales a lot more understandable by trying to simplify it, which has worked for me. I've been studying with him for a couple of years now, and I have made huge improvements.

I highly recommend him, especially for the younger players!

My name is Mike Anklewicz, and I play the saxophone, clarinet and flute in all styles and forums. I have a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance from the New England Conservatory where I studied with Ken Radnofsky. I also studied with Montreal's Peter Freeman and Toronto's Bruce Redstone, as well as done masterclasses with Jean-Marie Londeix (Bordeaux) and Jean-Francois Guay (Montreal).

While most of my training is in classical music, I have studied Jazz Theory, arranging, improvisation and I've performed in small jazz combos, big bands (currently playing with the Advocats, first monday of the month at the Chick n' Deli), R&B bands and Klezmer ensembles (mostly on clarinet).

I am available to teach all ages and levels on saxophone, clarinet, and flute at very reasonable rates, at times that are convenient. I teach jazz, classical (including RCM prep), klezmer, rock and avant-garde music and techniques. I'm also available for clinics, masterclasses and recording sessions.

Ray Guyll at Mills in Redmond, WA. Monster sax, clarinet, and flute player, high school band teacher, community band director, and teaches any reed instrument. Great personality and people skills. However, he is usually full up so trying to get a slot with him can be challenging.

Neil Proff, band director at Lake Stevens High School, teaches out of studio in Redmond, WA and at Lake Stevens, WA. Another stellar player teaching saxophone with emphasis on jazz, blues, and theory. Great personality and people skills. Most of his students are late bloomer adults.

I'm interested in finding a teacher in the Philadelphia area. I am a student at Drexel University, and will be looking at the programs my school offers, but I'd like to keep my options open, as I am not a music major (Software Engineering major, Japanese minor).

I've been playing saxophone for 11 years, most of which was in my school band growing up. It was a small school, so I was doing more teaching than learning, unfortunately, and I'd like a chance to study with someone who plays my instrument or at least knows how to teach it. :]

I'm putting in my two cents as well. I'm a music education major at Mansfield University. I am opening my teaching during the summer to any students in the Northeastern PA area. Beginners and intermediates accepted, advanced players might want to ask for recommendations for better teachers (I'm only a freshman in college...not that good yet, haha). I would mostly teach classically oriented materials, such as things like tone and technique and understanding of the saxophone, but upon request I could assist with improvisation and jazz studies. If you are seriously interested in jazz and improvising, I could also recommend teachers to you in the area. Thanks!

I've taught from the ages of 7 to 60-something, and been teaching for 8 years. I teach saxophone to the advanced level (high college level), beginner flute. Not sure if he'd be willing to come out to you, or you to him, but a guy by the name of Ryan Saranich does offer private instruction. He's out of Wilmington, NC and teaches jazz studies to private students. He'll be a junior at UNC-Wilmington this year as a music performance major with a concentration in jazz studies. He just spent this past year on tour and cutting albums (his most recent, Doc's Blues, is a very good album in my opinion).

brian horton teaches over at North Carolina Central University along with wiggins but i'm not sure exactly how you would go about approaching wiggins since i only really know horton. he's a slamming player, you should try him. and if you get lucky, you could try to get lessons from branford too since he lives in durham, but i'd say start out with horton first because i've rarely seen anyone just go up to branford and ask him for a lesson and him accept without him knowing who you are...horton would atleast get you within range of studying with branford since he's taken (or probably still is) lessons with him...
