I was in a music shop the other day, and I saw an old alto up on the racks. Was pretty beat up with the lacquer wear....but physically it was in good shape, maybe one small dent. It was a Buffet "Evette Schaeffur" model I believe. Had "Master Model" engraved on the side of the body. Made in France, serial number was 4 digits long. Anyone know any information on these horns, how they play, what type (prof, inter, student), and what they would run if I got her fixed up? Thanks guys.
I've heard that some of the saxes labelled "Evette Schaeffer Master Model" were actually identical to Buffet Super Dynaction. I think you would have to look at one very closely and compare it to a Super Dynaction to see if that is true. You'll be unlikely to get much information, if any, out of Boosey & Hawkes. The Super Dynaction, of course, is a top-line pro model with approximately the same production years as the Selmer Mark VI. If the serial number system for the "Master Model" is the same as for the "Super Dynaction" which would not be too surprising if they are identical, it would date to 1957-1963 with a 4-digit serial.
