I'm looking for some opinions about the jody esp. Ive been thinking about ordering one but I'd like to hear how other people like them before I shell out $120 on one. I've been playing a selmer C* for a long time, haven't found anything quite like it yet.

Vortex - you might want to check Jody's web site again. I think you're getting mouthpieces mixed up; there's the Jody Jazz and there's the ESP which is $350.00.

Also, take a look around this forum. There are already comments regarding the ESP. By the way, I have one and it's outstanding.

oops, my fault... thought they were all esp's (heh, "i wish", i'm thinking now) anyway, how well do the jody jazz mouthpieces play in comparison to a selmer c*?

Yeah, I have the SAME question VORTEX??! I use a Selmer C* mouthpiece on my Selmer Series III Alto sax but I was thinking about the Jody Jazz normal mpcs. Is it better? I am looking for a RESPONSIVE, CLEAR, MELLOW, tone. Please dont confuse with the ESP mpc.

Runyon Customs and Jody Jazz pieces eat Selmers for lunch. When you push them, they are brighter than Selmers. You can back off and play them mellow. These are great pieces. The removable Spoiler gives you two pieces in one.

I would say a Meyer is one step brighter than a Selmer and the Custom/JJ is 2 steps brighter. Still below the the edgy bright sounds ala Sanborn.

Do you mean that the runyon custom and the jody jazz alto are the same pieces? Or just similar enough for our purposes?

also, does the blue one play any different from the black one?

The JJ is basically a Runyon custom that Jody modifies and "tweaks"... I play a JJ on Soprano and an ESP on Tenor... and will most likely get a ESP for Alto when Jody releases them. You can't ask for a better guy to deal with than Jody, and you can;t go wrong with his trial policy. Order one, I'm pretty sure you'll like it, but if you don't, you can send it back and only pay for the shipping. Nothing to lose. Just my 2 cents

cool, I may have to do that. Any notion of when the alto esp will be available?

Jody sent out an email to people that have bought stuff from him before about a week ago sayin gthat we could get on a list for the first Alto ESP's to come out. If I remember correctly, it was in April or May. Not long now!
