Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for repairers in the UK. I'm
in Cambridge but will travel if necessary. I know of Woodwind and Reed
(in Cambridge), John Myatts and Hitchin and Howarth's in London but
I haven't dealt with these guys for repairs. Does anybody have any
comments on these? Are there any other repairers around that people
have had a good experience with?

Thanks,

- Michael

I've used Toot Sweet in Nottingham for a friendly, reliable service. I've recently had recommended, though have never used, a guy called Paul Carrington near Newark. To quote my source:

he is the Top BANANA, he is used by the top music
school (trinity college) in Notts and i can HIGHLY recomend him Paul's
no. 01636 525397 cheers, Andy-

I mentioned this to my teacher, and he agreed that the guy is very highly thought of.

BTW if you want to wait three years I'll be putting my own hat in the ring - just started a woodwind making and repair course at Newark College.

Glad to hear that Rupert's still in the game. I got to know him when he started Toot Sweet in Nottingham, sold me my Hawkes XXth Century tenor and Handcraft alto. Not only a great tech, but a genuinely nice guy.

I don't want his rates to go up, but I will second John Clark at The Woodwind Workshop in Manchester. Tel: 0161 236 1090.

He is an absolute artist in the business and has worked on several horns for me (incl. three in the last month).

Geoff is the best tech I have ever known. First class chap lives in Chelmsford Essex and his workmanship is brilliant. Check him out on www.saxophones.co.uk under repairers.

Hi!
Willy Garnett. Maida Vale. London
Freddy Gregory. North London
Ben Dearnsley. Howarths. Chiltern Street. London.
Phil Williams.c/o Bill Lewingtons. Central London.

Check out Willy and Freddy via Google. These guys are superb craftsmen.
Really!! Last time I saw Willy he was sorting Sanborns' Alto. Freddy is a legend in the repair/mouthpiece making world. Phil Williams looks after many London pro's as does Ben.

Cheers!
Alex.
