Hi all-

I am looking for a sturdy bari sax stand for my low A Yamaha. The only stand that I like is the old La Voz stand which has long since been discontinued.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The only thing I can recommend is to keep an eye out on Ebay. They do pop up there every now and then. I have one LaVoz bari stand I've been using since '83 (and bought in Ithaca, where I grew up BTW...), it's done a lot of traveling with me, and generally had the crap beaten out of it. It still works fine (it's been welded a few times and had a few screws replaced). However, a couple of years ago I was in the same boat as you and started looking for another one since there is nothing else even close to this stand available for bari. I lost one Ebay auction, then found another auction for a Selmer bari that showed a photo of the horn in a LaVoz stand... I contacted the seller and ended up buying the stand from them for $80 (which was less than my stand cost in '83!!). It was basically brand new. In the past few years I've managed to pick up a LaVoz double stand and a brand new LaVoz tenor stand. They are still out there, but you will have to hunt for them...I don't understand why nobody makes stands like these anymore...

In a few weeks I will have some bari stands with the characteristics you want, sturdy and stable. Picture is not available yet, but you can see the alto/tenor stands at http://www.saxrax.com/

You can contact me through the site at

eastcoastwind@ntlworld.com

for sales in the United Kingdom, and contact me directly at

saxraxus@saxrax.com

for U.S. sales.

The Aluminum tubing these stands are made from is quite heavy wall, I measured it at .144" wall thickness (3.66 mm), with nice TIG welding on the aluminum, not a spot or tack weld, but full "row of dimes" weld. The finish is anodized, not painted, in red, blue, or black.

The Bullhorn Head is made from stainless steel and MIG welded, with a firm expanded rubber coating. The hinge bracket is 2mm steel, powder coated.

John has made the bari sax version to fit either low A or low Bb baris. I think you will be quite pleased with these new stands.

rashorn, take a look at the Beechler bari stand ( www.beechler.com ).I have one and it is the best stand available, extremely stable and sturdy;your bari won't fall off this stand.I use Beechlers on tenor and alto, too;never a single problem. They are expensive but worth every penny.
