So I'm in the process of buy an alto a cannonball alto for my local music store and they have some meyers, various selmers and vandorens. I have heard of people have great results with a meyer and some on vandorens but never any on selmers. Are the selmers just bad alto mouthpieces or is it just people prefer vandoren and meyer to the selmer. If you have had any experience on any of these mouthpieces your opinion would be appreciated. I am looking for more of a jazz sound but also be able to play at little bit classically. The most I am willing to spend on this alto mouthpiece is $200 CDN.

thanks

The super session is worth a try. I play one on a Mark VI and I think is is a good middle of the road mouthpiece.

Stefane: I have several alto mouthpieces that I use - among them are a Selmer Soloist F and a Selmer Super Session F.

I don't think generalizing in mouthpiece discussions is good - much depends on the player and the tonal concepts of that player. True, Meyers are popular (one of my favorites is a Meyer 6S-Medium Chamber) but that doesn't mean YOU will like them or that everyone likes them. The sound I get out a certain mouthpiece has no bearing on how it will work for you. DAVE

thanks you for your responses the reason why i'm interested in them is I know many people who play them on soprano but know none on alto thanks for the info I know it's up to me in the end but I wanted other opinions.

I play a Super Session D on my Conn New Wonder alto. It plays great and in tune.

I found the SS for alto a bit resistant.
