Gene,

There was a discussion about these older Buffet / Evette's recently in which our benevolent site host (Harri) posted some information (which helped both me and another poster identify their horns) and a link to a Buffet / Evette serial number list...

www.saxophon-service.de

I own a Buffet / Evette Soprano with similar engravings to those that you describe.

'Anc e Mon Buffet Crampon & Cie' is the parent company's name. (Buffet Crampon & Company)

'Evette & Schaeffer' is the maker's company name.

'18 & 20 Passage Du Grand Cerf' is their address in Paris. (or maybe 'was their address' at this point in time)

'Brevetis s.g.d.g.' has something to do with 'patented' (mine does not have that on it)

'7048' is the serial number. (mine is 29XXX)

My Soprano was made in 1926 but yours is MUCH older. Evette must not have made many Saxophones per year. According to the list, your Baritone appears to have been made between 1885 and 1889. Wow...that's an oldtimer !!!
