So I've got a Meyer NY USA in front of me (Alto 6M) that I want to take some pics of and probably sell. Only problem is that my digital camera won't show the part on the shank that says "New York USA" which obviously is pretty darned important! The "New York USA" is pretty faint (I've been using this piece since early in college) but it's definitely there. Any ideas how to photograph this piece properly?

Could you rub some chalk in the lettering to make it more visible? DAVE

Good advice from Dave. You can even use gold paint on a soft cloth and wipe it over so the grooves can be filled and then remove the excess before it dries and polish the shank with your hand using a soft cloth.
You can also polish the shank by rotating it with one hand while applying preassure with the other and a soft cloth, then when it shines, angle it so the light reflection is where the engraving is and take a nice closeup (macro) shot.
Good luck

Nice tips!
I always take the pic of a mpc with the pc lying on a dark background which gives more flashlight on the piece itself.
Sometimes taken a pic in day-light wil gives a better pic.
You must have a good zooming camera!!
