View Full Version : Borgani Soprano
Lately, I've been seriously considering selling my Yani 992 soprano for either a pearl gold or pearl silver soprano. I went to Roberto's awhile ago and tried a few, and was blown away! (I didn't have the cash on me at the time) Then, in August, I went back to Roberto's with a private student of mine who was in the market for a soprano and a flute. He ended up buying a Borgani, 24K gold soprano. These horns seem to have a character unlike any other - it made my Yani feel "generic". Has anyone had any experience with the Borgani sopranos?

No, but I want to. Which model did you play? I'm most curious about the curved model. Bob Berg played the curved sop in a silver pearl finish.
Dr. G,
I played a straight pearl silver, which was a fantastic horn. I also played a straight pearl gold which FLOORED me - Roberto and Matt were laughing when I came out of the practice room - they said that my "face said it all!" :D
I've also played both a pearl silver, and pearl gold curved soprano, and they were wonderful - I just happen to prefer the straight sopranos. I've also played a 24K gold and sterling silver soprano, but I didn't like them as much as the pearl finishes.

I play a Borgani pearl silver Bb straight soprano....
And; a Curved Silver Borgani....
They are very amazing. The sound will knock you out. :dazed:  I dig them a lot.
I was there...when the late Bob Berg got his curved Borgani soprano.
We had a ball testing the horns & hearin' Bob play them.
What he was playin' was out of this world...stunning inspired saxophone mastery... :Rant2: It was unreal to hear him play in front of me like that-:Rant2:
Bostons Arnie Krackowsky bought an alto & tenor...plus
Louie Belogenis got a tenor and soprano...Bobby Keys from the Rolling Stones got a Pearl Gold tenor....yea...the saxes are THERE.
What can I say...its a great horn.

Borgani pearl silver & silver straight soprano
Want to know something about this horn:
1) What is the difference with their silver version? Both in sound & finish.
Is Pearl silver look Brushed finish ?
2) What's market price of Pearl silver & silver ?
3) How's the sound compare with S-991, S-992, Series III & YSS-875S ?
4) Is it wholly made in Italy or the parts are made in Taiwan but assembly in Italy ?
Tears,
These are NOT made in Taiwan. Please see their website at http://www.borgani.com/ .
The pearl silver finish is a matte finish - not brushed, it looks more like a lightly sandblasted finish (but it's not quite that either). They also make a silverplate version. You may view the finish options at the website.
You really need to see and handle one of their horns to appreciate just how much of a "hand built" feel a horn can have. Each key of my tenor has a serial number that matches the serial number of the horn. It's amazing to me to see that kind of detail work anymore. It reminds me of my ol' Italian target pistol or a fine shotgun.
I am waiting to get one of their sops - I'd prefer a curved baby Borg' to complement my silver pearl tenor but am anxious to play a straight one to see how it stacks up to my Serie III.
