Hello,

I'm looking for a alto saxophone mouthpiece that has volume and projection, yet with a sweet or somewhat mellow tone. In other words, an alto mouth-piece that has or produces a mellow or sweet "singing" sound but yet has PLENTY of projection and volume as well. It's like looking for a dessert that is cold and yet hot at the same time as a cold ice cream sundae with hot chocholate fudge topping on it ( the best of two worlds at the same time).

If such a critter exist or something close to what I looking for, I'm open to your suggestions and comments. Again I looking for this in alto either hard rubber or metal, although I prefer hard rubber.

Thanks!

Lester

RPC Rollover: Mine is an old one with an .85 opening; these days, Ron Coelho opens them to .90

Morgan, or if you want to go the vintage route, Gregory/Gale pieces are very good.

Use an Otto Link HR...I've been playing one on tenor and it has the warmest sound, with lots of power still. I've been using like a 4H Rico Jazz select reed with my 8* Link

The Runyon Quantum is a very nice ballad piece with tons of projection. It is not a vintage sound, but it has a deep/dark tone to it. And it can play very loud. It has a bit of resistence to it, something that I didn't really like. I just bought the DV (perfect mpc in my mind though pricey) and am sellin all my mouthpieces. Pm me if you want it. It has a #7 facing which is like .78

.078" is a #6, #7 is .083"

My vote for a RPC 90R...after A/Bing with that and a DV8 the DV might be a bit too bright. To get it darker (still a bit bright) I had to use a pretty hard reed which I really didn't like...I for one am sticking with my RPC :)
