I recently acquired a Conn tenor and through saxgourmet found it to be made in 1924. The finish is a brass brushed type finish( not polished).
I had to have the neck extended about an inch in order to get the intonation. The tone holes are rolled and the the action seems to be good. Apprently this horn had sat in its case for many years. The case is somewhat scuffed but serviceable. Once I had the neck extended to support the mpc, the intonaltion is quite good. Anyone out there have any idea what this horn is worth?

Extended the neck? The horn doesn't happen to have a "H" below the serial number does it?

Same question as Mutha. I have a 1923 New Wonder and has no such problem with intonation.

My 1921 New Wonder baritone (low pitch) also will play sharp, but with modern mouthpieces. Vintage fat bodied (and I mean fat!) mouthpieces work fine on the neck; but if I insisted on modern mouthpieces, I can see that a neck extension would be in order on my horn as well.

Good point! A great many of today's mouthpieces are totally useless on horns of this vintage. I use a HR Berg .110/1/STM & metal Wolf Tayne .110ish on a '27 Chu tenor & (believe it or not) a red Runyon Custom 7 on a '24 New Wonder alto.

But extending the neck an entire inch? Wouldn't it be safer to just find a suitable mpc?
