Hi,

Can anyone tell me anything about the Kohlert Regent?

Am looking at one at the moment - the bell engraving reads

REGENT
Kohlert
Winnenden

S/N is 16944

It appears to have rolled tone holes and looks v similar to a kohlert of a similar s/n on saxpics.

Is this a student or intermediate model as I have read elsewhere, or is "Regent" just a stencil marking or similar?

Thanks.

Hi Tim; well, 'Regent' would be the model name, so it's not a stencil. I know about Kohlerts only what I've learned on this site, but the general impression is that they're well-regarded horns. Try using the 'search' button at the top of the page to learn more.

Good luck and welcome to sotw.

Tim, did you end up buying that Kohlert & Co. Winnenden Regent? I'm looking at one for $350, Ser. 45640...

I need another alto like a hole in the head, but this one's said to be 2 years old and looks immaculate!

If it's only 2 years old it'll be a Chinese/Taiwanese horn, branded Kohlert but with no connection to the Regent discussed in this thread.

That is not a 2 year old sax, maybe 20. Need to cross reference the serial number but it looks nice.

Indeed so. I don't think the thumbnails showed when I posted my response above - it's clearly not a modern horn.

It's a keeper!!!

My pro line Kohlert '57 tenor (made in 1957) has serial number 44047...

So... I would say you are looking at an intermediate horn from late 1957 or early 1958. That is a GREAT horn, no matter what you want to call it!

If you don't buy it I will (if my wife would let me)!!!

ENJOY!!!
