Hi! I'm thinking of purchasing a Reunion Blues gig bag for my alto conn 6m VIII.
What do you think?
I don't live in the states, so I can't try it before. Will it fit ok?
What's your experience with these gig bags? Otherwise, which ones do you like?
Thanks,
bcnsax

bcnsax: I have leather Reunion Blues bags for my altos and sops (different bags, of course).
The alto bag fits all of my altos (vintage and new). The neck goes in a cloth sack and then down the bell of the horn. There is a small side pocket for accessories that does not protude beyond the side of the bag.
Most folks will tell you that gig bags are a repair-tech's dream - and they are if you tend to be careless with your things. There is no protection from the unexpected bump or drop.
I also have a Pro-Tek sax-shaped case for altos (I've carried my Cigar Cutter and my Conn Chu in it) and it is much better than the gig bag, at least for protecting the horn from misshaps; and not that much bigger or heavier then a gig bag. Plus, with the two side pockets on the Pro-Tek I have more room for accessories. DAVE
Dave's right. Gigbags are a tech's best friend. A pillow case is only marginally less protective and is way cheaper. Best thing about a gigbag is that when you horn does eventually get "whacked" all the parts will be in one place.
If you like your horn protect it properly, use a good case. (With all due respect to Dave and other bag users.) I'm a bari player mostly. I hate lugging around that massive case but it's better than trips to the shop.

Well, I've said it before here and I'll say it again, I guess. I had Reunion Blues for my alto and tenor. Was leaving my teacher's home and tripped over some potting soil his wife had carelessly left on the porch stoop, dropped my horn and it took three trips to the repairman before it was back to normal.
Could've bought a decent hard case for the price of the repairs. Could've had the best hard case available for the cost of the repairs and my Reunion Blues bag combined. Your choice. Cheers.

I used a Reunion tenor gigbag for a long time years ago.I never had a major problem with it since I didn't gig too much at that time. But I would not recommend a gigbag for any kind of use and would not use one anymore since gigbags offer very minimal protection.Get a good hard shell case like Hiscox pro-case which,in my opinion,is the best case on the market.
