Yeah, Sam's fantastic! I love his Blue Note stuff. It's sort of a model for me on how to play straight ahead with a free attitude.
He was playing a Chu in the 60's, no?

yeah man, that's about as good as it gets. That's an album I've listened to for a long time and never ever get tired of it. What kills me is Tony's first notes on the ride cymbal.

I've had the pleasure of playing with Sam several times. He's a really nice cat and just blows his *** off. It's always amazing to stand next to a real venerable master and hear them....it'll really send you back to the shed! =:-)

So what ever became of Sam's SML? What horn is he playing these days? I love Sam's sound.
