Hi, you all...
has anybody tried a Morgan mouthpiece on soprano? Dave Kessler swears by them and recommends the J7...
Thanks

I use a Morgan soprano mouthpiece and absolutely love it. It has a big, rich, and vibrant sound -- not edgy or nasal. This particular mouthpiece was custom made for me by Ralph Morgan. He modified a J6 to have the characteristics of his classical soprano mouthpieces....only more open. He calls this piece a 6C. It has a darker sound than his jazz models. Never the less, Ralph's regular jazz soprano mouthpieces are excellent and I highly recommend them.

Thanks, Roger,
I guess I'll try a 6J , is it similar to a Bari 64?, the 7J might be a little too open for me...

Has anyone else tried the Morgans? I'm considering buying a soprano sax, and might get a Morgan Protone to go with it as an inexpensive mouthpiece to try out. I've played more expensive Morgans on clarinet and alto sax and like both of them, but anyone tried the Protone?

haven't tried the protone, but i'm also using a 6J on
my vintage sopranos and am very pleased with it.
larger chamber seems to help intonation.

I have used both the standard 1C and a 6C on soprano (not 6J). Both are excellent mouthpieces. The intonation is great, and they also help some of the response problems (low E and F) that seem to be characteristic of the Selmer III horns. (I noticed a big difference, anyway.)

Another vote for the 1C and 6J. Both give great results on my vintage Bueschers and Conns.
