I've got a Handcraft alto, a Handcraft Imperial tenor, a Centennial alto, and I used to have an Indiana alto-- a manufacturing spread from the late 20's to the mid-50's. Except for the Centennial, all of them have the horn's serial number stamped on the neck as well as the body.

The neck on the Centennial (early 40's) is definately the right neck for the horn. And recently I was scrutinizing a Committee I alto that didn't have the serial on the neck, either -- though it, too seemed to be the horn's proper neck.

Anybody know the deal on this? Did some models go without the serial on the neck? I've never bothered to notice on any Committee II or "The Martin" horns I've seen. Do they have the neck serial, or not?

My martins have neck serial numbers all matching body numbers including a The martin tenor so they should have numbers. My oldest is a typewriter tenor 1930 and a handcraft standard special 1940.Maybe the later ones dont,im not sure about those ones

I some of these model Martins (more than one of each for all except the Standard and Imperial)

Handcraft 9x,xxx
Handcraft Standard
Handcraft Imperial
Committee II
THE MARTIN
Imperial

also previously I had a 60's Indiana

Every single one of them has the serial number on the neck, which matches the serial number on the base.

I would be suspicious of any neck that had no serial number on it, but there are many possibilities--
maybe they forgot to stamp the neck, maybe the neck is a factory replacement, maybe the Centenniel model being so limited in production doesnt have numbers on the necks, maybe the neck had some repair work done on it.
