Hey all

I've been playing with my alto custom jazz #9 now for a few months, but I've noticed a problem. When I'm in the upper register (Anything above high B), my tone suddenly goes paper thin. It gets hard to controll the pitches up there and it sounds like fingernails against a chaulkboard. I didnt have this problem with my Link STM 8*. I'm currently using a Rovner MKIII lig and Superial 2 1/2s, any suggestions for this problem?

Thanks
BrianL

I think its the baffle design. A regular Runyon Custom may be more to your liking.

Lowering the baffle near the tip rail may also thicken up the high notes enough for your tastes.

If you like the Alexanders, you might also try the DC's or Classique's.

Just an intuition... Try a stronger reed, maybe that's all it needs.

Yes, the harder reed could clear it up. But then you may need to consider a size down in tip opening.

Focus on the manly reed.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I dont think its the tip opening. the tip opening is actually smaller than what I had been playing. I think I'll give the Superial Classiques a shot, I used to play on them but needed a brighter reed with my Link.
