View Full Version : Replacement Case for "The Martin" Tenor
Any ideas for a replacement case? I need a gas mask to be in same room when case is opened.
Horn is wonderful, but the smell of the case can permeate the entire house!
My preference would be to have a luggage shop refurb the case, but haven't been able to find the time to make calls to find a shop.
Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.

My advice, throw the case in the trash and get a Hiscox. Pricey, but very protective and a great case that will last a very long time. I just got a Martin, and thanks to the case, the horn suffered in shipping. I tossed it and put "The Old Lady" in the Hiscox. End of story....
Kind Regards,

Febreeze does wonders. I've been refurbishing vintage saxes for a about a year now and have used Febreeze on 10 or 15 old cases by spraying them and letting them air out for a couple of days. This stuff works wonders.
If you want a good "flight ready" case, I prefer Hiscox cases for vintage horns. A good deal at around $200. See:

For a less expensive "gigging only" case I'd recommend the Protec Propac Contoured case that I am using for a Martin Handcraft alto (split bell keys). The Martin is a bit snug around the low Eb and Bb key guards but the case seems to have formed around these areas pretty well. The Propac is a rigid case with a soft exterior. An alto case can be had for around $100. Decent protection - lots of pockets - good value overall. See www.ptcases.com
I hope that helps.

Kenfen is right. My "Martin" lives in a Hiscox, and he feels real good.

Now there telepathy for you - three folks with the same recommendation typing at the same time! Man, you gotta get a Hiscox now :-)
Thanks to all of you for the input. I just sent Dave an email so that he can send one to me. This Martin that I have has some tremendous sounds in it, and I am so afraid of something too terrible for words to describe happening to it. Not only is the case smelly, but 2 out of 3 latches don't work. I guess a new case is in order! My other tenor is a YTS 61, and I never thought I would find an easier playing horn. My wife and my secretary both love the sound of the Martin, just hated the case smell!
Again, thanks for your help
