I was wondering if the plastic Quantum for tenor (#8 facing) is suitable for jazz music? I'm just trying to make sure that it isn't too bright, as my new sax (a Yani T-901) is a lot brighter than I'd initially expected.

The delrin quantum is really loud and bright. You can subtone easily on it but I find that the bottom register is not warm enough. The high register and altissimo are easy to play.I think it's maybe not the right piece for straight jazz. Metal quantum is darker but really not as warm as a Link .... but more powerful. What kind of sound are you looking for ?

Chris04, if you're looking for a darker sound from your T901 I suggest you check with Saxquest in St. Louis about the Tenney Links. As far as I know there are two versions of the HR Link and one Metal Link. I use a modern Tenney Link HR on a 901 and it gives a full, rich sound. A T901, Tenney Link and Superial reeds are a great combination. And they're sold in your own city, so maybe you can test play them.

You can also try the new "slant" Tenney HR links. (a bit brighter than the HR tenney Link)
Then you will tell us what you think about it ... (I'm curious about this new piece)

Yeah, thanks for the suggestions. I may try out the new Links. How much do they usually sell for? I think the Quantum may be a bit brighter than what
I'm looking for

Saxquest in St. Louis sells straight-from-the-factory Links and also Links perfected by Doc Tenney. Prices are on their web site, www.saxquest.com. The Tenney Links are considerably more expensive than the factory Links, but they play very, very well and are worth the difference, in my opinion.
