I recently bought an sml tenor from a dealer in manchester, england. it was recommended by a friend who had blown it and would have bought it himself if he'd had the cash. I paid £550 and then another £200+ for a complete overhaul, as the pads were so old and fragile they split soon as you looked at them and it badly needed regulating. Its still settling down after this major work, but it plays real nice with a big warm sound and the tuning is spot on. I had a look at the serial numbers list, and it seems it was made in 1950 or 51, but I can't work out what model it might be. the only thing I worked out is that it does have rolled tone holes.
Did I bag a bargain, or have I got me a turkey? And any suggestions on the model?
Jen :D

Hello gingerjen,

Seems like you got yourself a bargain, welcome to the lucky person club! Generally describes anyone with an SML Saxophone :D .

This chart should give the info you require............. Thanks to saxpics.

Good luck with your Saxophone, enjoy it.

Looks like it could be a Rev C, more than likely a Rev D model.

Has photo's of SML Saxophones, so you could cross reference from the Photo's and information available.

Regards,

ABrit.

:D thanx ABrit.
think its too early to be a rev D, but I'll check the charts again. And if I can manage to lug it up into the attic ( where the pc is) I'll compare it to the photos.
and yeah, i'm in the happy, lucky peoples club!
cheers :)
