View Full Version : Stocl Yani mthpiece any good?
I'mgoing to be ordering a Yanagisawa S901 and I'm wondering if the stock mouthpiece is any good. Is it a #5 that comes standard with these horns?
Thanks,

Yes, a #5 comes with the horn. They're well-made and hand-finished. Some will love them, some won't. I had a #5, but it was too closed for me. I sold it to someone who absolutely loved it.

A very nice mouthpiece.

For a stock mouthpiece it is quite good, but a #5 is just too closed for me. You may wish to go to a piece that has larger facing later. I favour the Yanagisawa metal mouthpieces though, the soprano piece plays very nicely (and loud) with a Plasticover.

I bought a third-party Yani HR 5 and it is my preferred mpc for my sop compared to the OEM mpc that came with it, a Selmer C* and a Beechler 7 metal piece. I think it's good enough to warrant a good trial before springing for other mpc's. As always, YMMV.
That's good to hear. I'll give the Yani piece a try before I order anything else.
Thanks.

I am with oppai. I blow a metal 7 and it has a much cleaner sound abross the scale but you may need some chops first
