I just bought a second mouthpiece. It was cheap and a good one, but it's too closed at the tip. Has anyone ever had a mouthpiece refaced? If so, did it work well? I won't do it myself - I'm no dope.
Yup - I wanted a Selmer Classic metal piece, but I could only find Es, and I needed about a G.
I bought an E and sent it to SOTW's very own MojoBari - he opened 'er up and made sure everything else was as it should be.
It's now what I call a "wet my pants" mouthpiece, so I'd say it worked pretty well...

How do I get in touch with this cat? I'll try to hunt them down in here... Thanx 4 the tip.

He used to have a thread in the "Links" area, but it must have gotten wiped out.
He said (on some thread around here) that he had a backlog at the moment, but it's still worth contacting him...

I have had all my piece worked on Jon Van Wie. In fact, I won't play a mouthpiece that has been worked on. The problem with mass produced pieces is that they have all kinds of production flaws. Such as warped tables, facing curves that are too long or too short, etc. Whether your Brecker or a beginner everyone needs a custom refacing mouthpiece unless you buy a Ralph Morgan or Freedie Greagory piece which is handmade.
I highly reccommend Mojo. He worked on my Link Millenium and got it to play beautifully, evening everything out and adding just the right amount of baffle for my taste. This is after another well known mouthpiece guy had tried his hand at it but just couldn't get it to my liking. And Keith's a hell of a nice guy too!
Does anyone know if Jon Van Wie is still doing his refacing thing? I haven't got any response to a couple of emails. Then again, he's probably bombarded with them... But someone in another thread had mentioned he may have gotten a "straight" job.
I recommend him highly.
Regarding Jon: See the "Tough news for me" thread in this forum.
