Can anyone give me their impression of Dukoff's X chamber tenor mpc as opposed to the regular D? Also, do they run fairly true to the mpc chart? That is, D7=.105 and D8=.115 or do they tend to run bigger or smaller than the chart? I usually play between .105 to .110. I am using a Runyon Smoothbore 9 right now which plays very easily, but is a little thin in tone.I thought maybe the Dukoff would help, but there is very little on his site regarding the X chamber tenor.

The Dukoffs I've measure vary a lot. +/- .010 from the marking. I think I've seen more smaller ones. The baffle and tip rail can be bad too and the chamber is pretty sloppy, though that does not effec the sound a lot.

I've only see pictures of the X chamber. You should consider the M chamber too. It is less bright.

Mojo, would you recommend an 8 or a 7 for someone currently using a Runyon Smoothbore 9? My Runyon is SO easy to play, but sometimes I would like to get that fatter sound that the Dukoff has, particularly in the lower register. The Dukoff descriptiion of the X says that it is supposed to be a D with a groove in it to provide more lower partials.

Tough to say. Some D8s play like Runyon 9s and some play like Runyon 12s. Start with the D7 (or X7, or M7).

Do you have any decent Dukoffs yourself available? You might remember me as the guy who sent the Rovner down to Vineland.

I have a couple ready to go. A M8 that measures .110" that I tweeked and a Nickle-plated D6* that has been worked on a lot during its life. It is now a .106" and has a modified baffle that is rounded like a M but a little higher near the tip. There is a picture of the M8 via my site. I'll post the D6* soon.
