I'm curious what the difference is between the Rico V design and the ones in the orange box> I haven't seen any new V reeds in years, though I still have a few in a fake wood grained box. Thanks!

Go back to taking pictures or the large format forum. What are you doing on a sax forum?
I have a brown box of soprano reeds. Still use them occasionally.

Ahhh, man does not live on pyro alone! What are you doing here??:)
Really, I've been playing ricos forever and my older ones are marked with a V-(number) but the new ones aren't---what gives? The only "styles' I've seen are filed (like La Voz) or "american" style which is what I've heard unfiled reeds referred to as being.
What does the "V" mean? The old Ricos were advertised as being made of french cane, does the "V" signify "Var" then? Or is it something else?

La Voz are unfiled, AKA American style. Rico Royal are French cut, AKA filed.

OK Now I'm confused. I've not played Rico Royals and its been quite a few years since I had any La Voz, but I remember them looking very different from from the Ricos in the fake wood grained box. Those "V" styles look just like the Rico orange box reeds to my eyes, but the orange box reeds aren't marked "V" and they also seem to play differently, but maybe thats because all my V style reeds are so old?

These are filed reeds.
These are unfiled.

Thanks! Both my Rico V styles and the orange box Ricos are unfiled, still what is it that makes a Rico V style different from the orange box Rico?

No difference, just the box is different.
the V style was just a name used on the old brown box reeds.
They are the exact same reeds used today in the orange box.
Both are unfiled american cut reeds.
