Hi, I was looking for an alto in the $1000-1300 price range, and I looked at the Kessler black & gold, and the unison 2000 black & silver on the internet. I was wondering about your opinion on which is better, and also, if they might give me a special deal on the unison to bring it into my price range.

Thanks!:)

you got me curious and I went to check it out on the kessler site.

Well, they surely look nice and frankly speaking there is little to say about their looks, they are stunning. I have no way to know how they play and I would think that they are both good horns for the money. But, the money is the problem I think. I mean this is an investment beside being a playing instrument. If you buy a new horn like these, from Taiwan or China, your investment will depriciate real soon and a lot, if you ever decide to sell.

If you buy a vintage horn (and 1.500 $ should buy you plenty of it) the value will stay pretty much the same in time or even go up.

If you really want to go for this and simply based on the looks, I'd go for the Kessler De Luxe Balck Nickel finish!8-)

Between the 2 horns, they both have their strengths.

The Unison has the overall richer tone and a little more projection.

My Kessler Customs are built better and use stronger metal.

Both are great horns. The Unison is a little more fragile in that its metal is softer. It has the warmer overall tone. Keep in mind though that it comes with a gig bag and no mouthpiece. So if you want a hard case and a mouthpiece, they have to be added on to the Unison price.

You may want to hold off and wait until May when I get my RedBrass Kessler Custom Deluxe models in. They are a warmer tone then our other models. We have not had a chance to play them side by side with Unison yet so I do not want to write a comparison on the 2 until then.

Thanks, I will definitely consider the Red Brass model, since I will probably not be buying until around then anyway.

Also, how much are you willing to go below the M.A.P. price on say, the Selmer La Voix?

ok now I'm kinda curious about the red brass KCDeluxe on top of everything else, I'm really thinking this horn line might be the best for me to go for in my price range... But I don't see the red brass KCD on your site. Is it still around?

They are on the site. Take a look again. I am out of stock on RedBrass altos now and dont have an ETA on when I will have more. Next shipment, I will also be ordering RedBrass necks for people who already have my Kessler Custom horns.

Dave: what is the outside diameter of the neck tenon on your Kessler Custom altos?

Thanks!

I suspect there are much better horns than either of those available in that price range, if you will consider used horns too.

D'Oh, never mind. Just noticed the date of the original message.
