So I will get a silver plated Tenor GM1 within the next days.....

I was so pleased with the sound of my Rev D alto, so I'm quite excited to get it quickly now :)

You're a lucky guy. Let us know what setup you settle on with the GM1. The Rev D I played did not sound good with my Jody Jazz DV mpc.

Ike, you find the SML tenor sound like a cross between a Mark VI and a 10M. Your Barone will likely work well with it.

Enjoy

Interesting definition this. Since I'd say about the same of my Aristocrat 156 (maybe 60% MVI and 40% 10M) , I would be very interested to hear from anybody who has played both to compare the 2....

Mariages between Horn/reed/mpces seems a key point to me (assuming the player is the same)

I recently fall in love with a Barone Ltd Hollywood... so the first play will be with it:)

Works wonderfully with my Medusa and either bass clarinet Gonzales or Fiberreed Carbon if I need to brighten up the tone.

I do hope that the GM will hold better in front of my Medusa, which is probably one of the very last manufactured in Germany (and perhaps the workers tried to make the last horns outstanding... who knows). My SDA did not outperform it (tone wise, the ergo of the Medusa is far better than the SDA)

Tested it quickly saterday : tone is very very close to my Medusa 8-) (of course with the same mpce and reed)

The Barone neck does not fit directly the GM1 (#1mm on the diametre missing : # 1/40 of inch ), a test would request to manufacture an adapting ring

will perform more tests on tuesday:)

Will get it back from my tech early in may (is is quite loaded, one of the best in Paris... so there is some lead time), so I will be able to perform the test (without the Barone NY 7* already sold)

So got the horn back from overhaul....

Work nice for me:
- Master Link 6*/ Alexander Superial 3 / V16 lig
- Barone Ltd Hollywood / Gonzalez bass clarinet reed 2,5 / Rovner dark lig
- Selmer short shank soloist E / brancher Opera 3,5 / BG trad lig
- Bundy by EZ, 6* / Gonzalez bass clarinet reed 2,5 / BG trad lig
- F Rast / Gonzalez bass clarinet reed 2,5 / BG tra lig
- Morgan EL7 / Gonzalez bass clarinet reed 2,5 / BG tra lig

Did not work for me (the GM seems not to appreciate too buzzy setups):
- Berg like (SS) 100 with Fiberreed M
- F Rast with Fiberreed M

the two best setups (for me again) from above are the Soloist (which gave awfull results on the Medusa) and the Barone, but followed closely by the EL7....

after, the overhaul, the horn got much more projection and a much more "vibrant" sound (more core ?)

So sonically speaking, for me, my nickel plated GM is actually slightly before my silver plated Medusa (which is an outstanding horn, but with smoother, more female, sound than the GM), but the "feeling" seems not to be there :(
