I purchased a Martin sax at an estate auction. It has a few small dents, but I've had it reconditioned with all new pads. How can I tell how old it is? How much could it be worth? Where can I find the serial number on the horn? I want to sell it on eBay but want some kind of idea of what it's worth first. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Jo :)

The serial no should be below the thumb hook, check also it says 'low pitch'; then head to Steve Goodson's site at http://www.saxgourmet.com/serial.html to find out when it was made. At http://www.saxgourmet.com/VINTAGE_SAXOPHONE_VALUE_GUIDE.htm you'll find Steve G's opinion of what your horn might be worth in absolutely pristine condition. A more realistic guide would be to search eBay for completed Martin sax auctions, which should at least put you in the ballpark.
Happy hunting!
