seriously...
cool device.

it honors the memory of those who gave the lives for their country...
may those who have fallen recieve the respect they deserve.
those who still live... will honor those who have not.

Can we use it to substitue our trumpet section?

More importantly, do they do a trombone version?

Yes, I read about this travesty in today's paper. It just doesn't seem right to me. DAVE

I have some mixed feelings about this bugle with batteries. It might have beat the boombox and CD that played for my father, a WWII veteran. Then again, they were some of my dad's old buddies operating the machine after spending time in the back of their van folding dad's flag (it was a windy day). The thought counted.
I'm not sure if it's still viable, but there was a program called "Bugles Across Ameria" listing volunteer trumpeters/buglers for military honors.
I myself am hoping the national cemetery in SD has a real bugler on staff for ceremonies.

Sheesh.

I mean, really. Get a kid from the high school band. The middle school band, even. Have him play in the key of A if he can't hack the high G.

Anything but this.

Then again, commercializing everything to the nth degree is as American as it gets.

But is that what anyone fighting for his country laid down his life for?

Mixed feelings - yes, it's a cheesy substitute, but I don't think any of us wants to begrudge our veterans the honor they deserve - regardless of whether or not a horn player is available. I like the suggestion of having a volunteer list of local talent that can step in - but then again - I'm a reed player, so my services aren't in demand.

I second the motion that it's (slightly) better than boom box. It'd be really cool if the volume and attack were breath activated. Engineers?

I got an army bugle from the local surplus store when I was a little kid. Maybe not even playing anything yet, I don't know. I might have been 9 or 10. I could play a recognizable version of "Taps" the next day. There's only four different notes in it. Okay, so doing it in front of people would probably make me very nervous even now. Surely any brass player that can handle the stress of playing in front of people could handle the job. This is kind of sad.

I feel that if you couldnt get the live bugle... and were to use a CD or Boombox... that this is an alternative.
It is a DECORATION. it just lets them LOOK like a real millitary funeral. full honors. It may be some comfort to those who lost their loved ones.
