I bought a SML saxophone for only 230 dollars and I've let it completely revise (? repair) for 600 dollars. I want to know: was it a good deal?
The serial is 80XX, is it a Rev.C model from 1950?
Is it a good sax?
What is the difference between the Rev.C and the Rev.D?
I'm sorry for the poor English, I'm from Holland...

Hi
Did you ever get a reply? Still got the sax? They are certainly quite special saxophones.
I have a Rev C alto, and soundwise, it's every bit as good as my Rev D tenor (well, tenors).
I recently played a transitional Rev C/D tenor (ser 9100, 1951) that's maybe even better than either of my Rev Ds. The thing is simply a beast.
So yeah, I'd say you did pretty durn well - you spent $830 on a horn that will give any vintage Selmer costing ten times as much a serious run for its money.
My alto is a Rev D. SMLs are great saxes!
Have you looked up "SML" information on the saxpics gallery?
Scroll down brands until you find SML on the bottom.

I have for sale an SML Baritone Saxophone Low B flat. Rev C. Circa 1949. Serial number is 7470. I have owned this sax for about 15 years. I used it in various big bands and soul bands for about ten years before I gave up playing due to family commitments. Shortly before I stopped using it I had it professionally stripped, overhauled, completely re-padded and relacquered. Along with the sax is a protec hard wooden case, canvas covered. I bought new a couple of years before I stopped playing, It cost me just short of £300 back then. This is a beautiful sax with a gorgeous tone and great action. I have been on various sax forums and the general opinion of the SML sax is very favourable, many people actually think that it is a better sax than the Selmer. They are extremely rare and very sought after. It is a gorgeous sax. I also have a valuation letter for this saxophone valuing it at £4000 replacement value. Please contact me with any questions you may have.SML Sax Serial number chart: http://www.saxpics.com/sml/serials.htm For reviews on the SML Sax: http://www.saxophone.org/sml.html
